Mission & Vision | TA Convention

Much of the ongoing work of Telluride Association is conducted during the year by its elected officers and by several standing committees. They supervise its investment portfolio, plan and conduct the Summer Programs, and award or renew scholarships to Telluride House. Authority is delegated to these committees only to the minimum extent necessary as the Association adheres as closely as is practical to the principle that its members are all of equal standing and that its decisions should be made democratically in practice as well as in theory.
Most of the Association's work is therefore accomplished at its annual Convention in mid-June. This four-day meeting, held at Telluride House (or occasionally at Deep Springs College) is attended by members from all parts of the country. In these several days of intensive work and discussion, they review the operation of Telluride's programs, examine its investment position, act on proposals to modify or extend the work of the Association, elect new officers, and prepare and approve a budget of several hundred thousand dollars for the coming year. Although the primary aim of Convention is to carry out the Association's business, it is also an occasion for renewing friendships and contributing to the continued learning and growth of its participants. Telluride has played a formative role in the lives of most of its members. The annual meeting offers the members an opportunity to renew their commitment to the purpose of Telluride Association and their sense of what that implies for their own lives and work.
